Awesome Amps to be rebranded as the Search for Tone

You may be aware that I've had the site of Awesome Amps up-and-running for a few weeks. I've been having fun writing the articles and it's been generating some interesting traffic.

Why the rebrand?

The new site won't be just about amplifiers. It will still retain a focus on amps, but permit a wider range of articles. I've already started with articles on effects pedals and speaker cabinets, so now that I have a better idea of where I'm going with the site, I have changed it to the Search for Tone.

A secondary reason

I originally built Awesome Amps on a subdomain. I'm still happy with that. In the three weeks that the site has been live, someone else has registered the .com domain. I find that really funny. If it was a visitor to this site, seeing it was a subdomain and hoping to sell it to me. Bad luck (but not for me), if I'd have wanted the domain name, I'd have registered it before building the site. If it was someone independently registering it, then good luck to them.

The Future

I'm happy for this change and it should make the Search for Tone a better and more complete site.

Effort involved

In the interest of keeping maintenance to a minimum, I was glad to find that It took about 45 minutes to change across to the new the Search for Tone

That's not bad. Fortunately, there are not 100s of articles so it was quicker to search through the articles with a search and replace text editor. Much larger than that and I'd have had to automate some of the process
