Work-Life Balance
You've all probably heard the "Work to live, not live to work" adage. It's nothing new nowadays, but it serves us well to be reminded of it every now and again.
Career Choice
Given a choice, my social and family life comes before my work life. However given a wider choice, I always aim to enjoy both work and life outside of work.
It's important to me that I choose a career and choose my contracts for clients and projects that I'm going to enjoy. I can think of one time when I didn't do that and although I don't fully regret it since it did earn the money that I needed at the time, I didn't really enjoy the time at work.
Work-Life Balance
That project reinforced my belief that you have to enjoy your work otherwise you're spending more than 7 hours a day at work + maybe upto 3 hours travel each day doing the wrong things. Think about it: 10 hours a day is over half your waking day. Why spend it doing something you don't like?
All of the activities I've listed as being appropriate for achieving the £10k per month target have to allow for a good balance between work and social/family life.
